Three months out of the Jervis

It’s been nearly three months since I got on The Spirit and watched the billowing Malibu rapids escort us onto the Jervis Inlet. The roar of its engine and the irresistible winds were affirmations that my time up at not only Malibu but with Younglife had ended. It was time to pursue the next chapter of my life.

Though my life has gone a different direction, it’s impossible not to feel the sentimentality of the times all of us had up north. We felt like we excused ourselves from the world for a short time. We always had each other when the days were tough, and some were tough to be sure.

But for all the times that were difficult, there were times where spirits couldn’t have been higher. Times where I’m sure most of us will look back on our lives and say, “yeah, I did that.”

I cannot stress enough that the people themselves were the ones who made this place feel different from the rest of the world. Whether they were from east or west, younger or not so young, similar or polar opposites, everyone there had the heart to make Malibu special through their efforts. Any place in the world can be this special, so long as the heart behind “why we do it” remains.

Bring this heart to wherever you may feel it’s needed, and Heaven won’t feel so far away.
